About Me
Hei, again! So I suppose you'd like to know something about me. Well, I'm married and my husband and I have two teenaged children, a boy and a girl. We live in a suburb of Memphis, Tennessee: birthplace of rock n' roll and home of the blues, BBQ, and of course, Elvis. I was actually born in Louisiana, lived for a while in Georgia, then went to college, for the first time, back in Louisiana.
Education is like an addiction in my family. My parents were teachers, as were my grandparents, on both sides, my in-laws, two siblings, and several of my many cousins. Not only do we teach, we can't ever seem to finish school ourselves! Twenty of the twenty-three grandchildren on one side attended college. In my immediate family, 100% have a bachelor's, 66% hold a master's, and 33% have post-master's grad school. Those are staggering statistics. I often joke we are the most over-educated family on the planet. Personally, I received my bachelor's in History from Northeast Louisiana University, my master's in History from University of Louisiana-Monroe, and my newly minted PhD in American History from the University of Memphis (Tennessee).
I've taught college-level classes for almost twenty years. Yep. You read that right. Twenty years. That's not to say that's the only thing I've done - there was a time I freelanced as a writer, dabbled in web design in the early days of the Internet, clerked at a bookstore. But I always came back to teaching. As I said, it's an addiction. Even though my experience is in post-secondary education, I have a keen interest in public elementary and secondary education, not only as a parent, but as a citizen and an educator. That's why I'm in Norway. To try to figure out what you are doing right (given it's arguably one of the most successful public educational system in the developed world) and how that can be applied to America's classrooms. Hopefully, I can contribute a little something to your classrooms in return, even if it is just a great story.
You can contact me at [email protected] if you are interested in having me come to your school. :)
